The dissertation explores the doctrine of office within the theology of A.A. van Ruler. It argues that Van Ruler's theology of office provides a consistent Reformed setting for ecclesiastical office within the kingdom of God. In so doing, the dissertation explores Van Ruler's ecclesiology. It further analyzes ecclesiastical office as it has been discussed among Reformed and Lutheran churches in North America.
