XUV-LASER SPECTROSCOPY ON THE C'4 SIGMA-U+, UPSILON=0 AND C3 1-PI-U, UPSILON=0 RYDBERG STATES OF N2

The c'4 (1)SIGMA(u)+, upsilon = 0 and c3 (1)PI(u), upsilon = 0 Rydberg states of N2 are studied by means of 1 XUV + 1 UV resonance enhanced two-photon ionization. The experimental resolution (0.35 cm-1 fwhm) combined with a calibration against a visible wavelength I2 standard results in an order of magnitude better accuracy in the absolute line positions than in previous non-laser based investigations. The effects of homogeneous and heterogeneous perturbations of the Rydberg states by b' (1)SIGMA(u)+ and b (1)PI(u) valence states are analyzed.
